December's Sock

Well the meeting of our little knitting group Thursday night November 20th was very productive. There were only two of us but we knit up a storm. Nathalie chose the next sock we will be working on as a group and it's lovely. She chose the "Cabled Corn" sock pattern from the book Knitting Circles around Socks by Antje Gillingham.I believe you can purchase this book locally at Cricket Cove. You can try Michael's and Chapters as well as purchasing it on-line.It is a good book to have for anyone interested in knitting socks on 2 circular needles. The pattern calls for a light weight worsted sock yarn on 3.25mm needles for a gauge of 7 sts/inch.Well I went to Cricket Cove and London Wool searching for this weight. Here is what I swatched this morning on 3.25mm that gave me the exact gauge, On Your Toes DK Boot Sock, Briggs and Little Sport, Patons Kroy Sock, Lana Grossa Meilenweit Stile Missoni Yarn and, Regia . Swatched at proper gauge from LYS on 3.5mm needles was Trekking XXL and swatched at proper gauge on 3.25mm from my stash was Drops Fabel .

Interestingly I invited the two sales persons who waited on me at both London Wul and Cricket Cove showed interest in knitting socks on 2 circular needles.Let me just state for the record that anyone wanting to join us on knitting night is more than welcome! We are small group of four. As far as I am aware we are not exclusive and we do not charge to attend. Our meeting nights are variable as we all work. Please find the next meeting night in the sidebar. If you do not have this months pattern supply your own.The pattern has a cable running down the sides. I use knit picks harmony wood needles but any circular needle will do. Just a personal preference really.Addi turbos are good needles as well. I like to use a 16 inch and a 24 inch needle but two 24 inch needles work. Here is a site that has a very good tutorial Lazy Perry Ranch Blog,Two Socks at Once Tutorial. Hope to see at Reid's Newsstand in Riverview December,8th at 6pm.

Here are my finished RPM socks that I knit using Briggs and Little Sport.I love that yarn.It is so flexible (stretchy). The pattern was easy enough and I like the choices it offered. I chose the non-spiraled foot and the flap heel. In case you haven't noticed I like just above the ankle socks for everyday but I am considering longer boot socks for the winter.Brrr!

Also Cricket Cove invites you to their Open House in Moncton. Saturday, November 29 10-5pm,303 Mountain Road. I hope I can convince my SIL (who will be visiting from Newfoundland)to come along with me. I know she is a knitter but who knows what she will feel up to.

Take Care
Cindy
