Continue in pattern until 2 or 2.5 inches before end of foot and start Short Row heel. The heel is made back and forth on sock B then sock A before continuing in the round in the pattern.
My favourite way to make the heel is to knit across to 2nd to last stitch. Wrap the 2nd to last stitch and turn. Purl back to 2nd to last stitch and wrap the 2nd to last stitch and turn. Now knit to the stitch in front of the wrapped stitch and wrap and turn it. Repeat on the purl side. This way it matters not how many stitches your pattern has this should always work. Decide how many stitches you`ld like to leave unworked in the center of the heel and work the wraps on either side. For example if your pattern has a total of 48sts then there are 24sts per side. If you want 8sts left unworked on the heel then you work (wrap) 8sts on either side of the center.
Turn the heel by unwrapping, double wrapping and unwrapping the double wrapped sts.
Row 1 – Knit to the first wrapped stitch. Pick up the wrap around that stitch and place it on the LHN. Knit the stitch and wrap together as one stitch through the back. Wrap the next stitch on the LHN (this is now double wrapped). Turn your work.
Row 2 – Purl to the first wrapped stitch. Pick up the wrap around that stitch and place it on the left needle. Purl the stitch and wrap together as one stitch. Wrap the next stitch on the LHN. Turn your work.
Row 3 – Knit to wrapped stitch. This is a double wrapped stitch. Pick up the 2 wraps and knit 3 together (that is the 2 wraps and the original stitch) through the back. Wrap the next stitch on the LHN. Turn your work
Row 4 – Purl to wrapped stitch. This is a double wrapped stitch. Pick up the 2 wraps and purl 3 together ( that is the 2 wraps and the original stitch). Wrap the next stitch on the LHN. Turn your work.
Repeat rows 3 and 4 until all wrapped stitches have been worked. The last stitch on each end of your needle will be wrapped after the last double wrapped stitch is unwrapped as per rows 1 and 2. First on Sock B then Sock A. Continue in rounds in established pattern.
There are many tutorials online to aid you with this technique. Try a search of `Short Row Heels`` in your search engine
